How to prevent dry, cracked lips
31st Aug 2014
The best way to prevent chapped lips is to avoid conditions that cause them. Unfortunately, those conditions are everywhere: cold weather and exposure to sun, dry air, and wind all make lips dry, cracked, or sore, as well as dehydration, nasal allergies, and breathing through your mouth. Certain medications, such as acne drugs, can cause chapped lips too. Counteract these environmental causes and restore moisture to your body by drinking plenty of water.
Stop licking your lipsOne of the worst things you can do for chapped lips is lick them frequently. When saliva evaporates, it removes any natural oils that you have on your lips. Instead of licking or biting, restore moisture with naturally occurring, hypoallergenic moisturizers like almond oil, cocoa butter, and beeswax. If swollen lips are your problem, pick up a balm infused with turmeric, a natural anti-inflammatory.
Oil it up
Scrub away dead skin
